SARAH'S OBITUARY
Sarah Ann Lindsey-Addington nee Smith
The world lost a little luster and magic on October 15, 2022 when Sarah Ann Lindsey-Addington passed on to her celestial home, which now features her angelic harp music, beautiful poetry, joyful whimsy and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies (for the wee ones).

Sarah Ann was born October 27, 1933 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Glen M. Smith Sr. and Sarah Blanche Beyl. She graduated from Central High School in 1951. She earned her Bachelor's degree in music education in 1955 and Masters of Arts in educational counseling in 1968 from the University of Tulsa. She was a proud member of Delta Gamma Sorority and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity.
On December 27, 1955 she married the love of her life, Edward D. Lindsey Jr. (Ed), also of Tulsa at First Baptist Church. They were married for 55 years and raised three children in Tulsa. After Ed's passing in 2010, Sarah Ann later met and married Eddie R. Addington of Tulsa on May 12, 2012; they were together until his passing in 2020.
Sarah Ann began her teaching career in Tulsa Public Schools at Mark Twain Elementary, but not long after, Ed was drafted into the United States Army. She taught in the San Antonio Public Schools while Ed was stationed at Fort Sam Houston from 1956-58. Upon their return to Tulsa, she taught music, speech, math and homeroom at various elementary schools within Tulsa Public Schools including Lee, Hoover and Salk. She later worked with learning disabled children at Kendall Elementary. In 1982 she became a guidance counselor at her alma mater, Central High School. She later held this role at Memorial High School until her Tulsa Public Schools retirement in 1991. Not content with a quiet retirement, she and Ed moved to Brownsville, Texas where she was counselor at Hanna High School until her second retirement in 1995. Upon her return to Tulsa, she un-retired again, teaching English and Humanities at Tulsa Community College until 2013.
Sarah Ann was an accomplished musician and vocalist. She played piano, clarinet and bassoon. She was a member of the Central High School Opera Club and a performer in many operas and musical plays. Sarah Ann was a vocalist in the Radio Choir and was in various musicals during her time with the University of Tulsa. In adulthood, she was a soprano and soloist at First Baptist, St John's and Trinity Episcopal churches. She served as youth choir director at St. Johns for many years. Sarah Ann learned how to play Concert Harp at age 50. For the next thirty years, she played the harp at weddings, funerals, parties and other special events in the Tulsa area. She privately taught piano, harp and voice.
Sarah Ann was a fierce and vibrant beauty. She took up running competitively in her forties, became a professional harpist in her fifties, published two books of poetry in her sixties, was an avid golfer in her seventies. She never stopped learning new things and finding all that life offers. She and Ed travelled to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, Australia, the Caribbean, and China. All the while, she was a loving mother, beloved aunt, doting grandmother and cherished friend to many.
Sarah Ann is survived by her children, Ethan David Lindsey MD and his wife, Una Murray-Lindsey; Sarah Katherine Christian and her husband Matthew Christian; Edward Glen Lindsey and his wife, Tara Lindsey; her grandchildren, Maeve Lindsey-Outlaw, her husband Charles Outlaw, Sean Lindsey, Allison Christian, Grant Christian, his wife Katie Christian, and Isabel Lindsey and Fiona Lindsey; A great grandchild, Teddy Christian, her niece Tammy Kirk and her husband James Kirk and many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
