MRS. D.W. WOODS BURIED JAN. 11
Funeral services for Mrs. D.W. Woods, LaDue, who died at 5:00 a.m., Jan. 9, at Clinton General Hospital, were conducted at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 11, at LaDue Christian Church by the Rev. N. Vernon Blankenship. "Whispering Hope" and "Beautiful Valley of Eden" were sung by Mrs. Ray Holly and Mrs. Dehn Batschelett, accompanied by Mrs. W.R. Batcshelett.
Paulbearers were Cecil Zink, Joe Adkins, Lewis Dunning, Paul Denison, Junior McKeaigg and Charles L Borum. Burial was in the LaDue Cemetery, under the direction of Vansant Funeral Home.
Nettie Porter Shy was born Oct. 1, 1872, southwest of Clinton in the Independence community on the farm that had been owned by her Grandfather Davis during the Civil War.
She was one of eight children of Carl and Margaret Ann Davis Shy and grew to womanhood there, attending the local schools and Baird College at Clinton.
On Nov. 2, 1898, she married Dee Witt Woods and, except for a few years in Colorado not long after her marriage, spent her entire married life in the community of her birth. Two children blessed this union, Margaret Ann, who became Mrs. Monroe Matter Feb. 6, 1926 and died May 9, 1950, and Clayton D. Woods, Los Angeles, Calif.
Early in life she professed her faith in Christ and united with the LaDue Christian Church, a zealous, conscientious worker until ill health struck, only a few months before her death. She was active in all church enterprises, was a Sunday School teacher for years, and her everyday life taught a beautiful lesson in cheerfulness, patience and Christian fortitude.
She loved folks, particularly young people, and with sympathetic understanding she often helped smooth a rough path for another. She loved music and things cultural, and her home was as happy and wholesome as it was hospitable. A wonderful wife, mother and friend, she is sincerely mourned by many.
Besides the husband and son, a grandson, Anthony D. Woods survives, also a sister, Mrs. Sam Calvird, Stratford, Tex.
The son, Clayton Woods, was here for the funeral service.
