William A. "Bill" Barnette, III, 58, of 3 Harper Lane, husband of Elaine Heyward Barnette; and father of Katie Barnette and William Barnette, IV died Saturday, February 2, 2008.

It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Barnette, age 58, shares the news of his sudden death on February 2, 2008.

He will be lovingly and forever remembered by his wife, Elaine, and his devoted children, Katie and William. Bill will also be greatly missed by his mother and father, Helen and Bill Barnette; his sister, Marie; his brother, Van, and their families. Bill was a dedicated family man who was respected for his ability to balance love of family and a successful business career.

After graduating from Erskine College with a business degree, Bill joined his father, W. A. Barnette, Jr., in the family business. Together they were instrumental in the expanded success of Carolina Pride, which began in 1920 under the leadership of Bill's grandfather, Dr. W. A. Barnette. Bill's father continues as CEO of what is now known as Carolina Pride Food Products. Before his death, Bill was Vice President and then President. Bill's latest achievement, as a member of the Board of Directors of American Meat Institute (AMI), was being selected to serve on the Executive Committee. His character, knowledge and experience were considered significant in providing direction and support to AMI objectives.

Alongside family and career, Bill had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and "working the farm". Seldom a weekend went by that you couldn't find Bill actively enjoying his outdoor pursuits. His wife and children were frequently a part of these activities.

In closing, Elaine, Katie and William want to be sure that their father is remembered for the unselfish, loving and amazing man that he was throughout his life.

A private funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at The Farm with family and friends. The Reverend David Mayo will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 108 E. Cambridge Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646; HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the Happy Hooves Therapeutic Riding Program, Eden Farms, 4700 Dacusville Highway, Marietta, SC 29661.
