Joseph Eugene Campbell, age 84, of Dallas passed away February 2, 2008, in Garland, Texas. He was born June 28, 1923, in Covington, Tennessee, to John Gordon and Katie Rose Campbell. He attended John Brown Military Academy in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas School of Engineering, in College Station, Texas. He worked for the United States Defense Department in 1942 at the Southwest Proving Grounds in Hope, Arkansas. He was a Veteran, enlisting in the United States Navy Construction Battalion and being attached to the United States Marine Corps in the liberation of the Philippine Islands and the occupation of Japan during World War II. He was preceded in death by sister Margaret Campbell Mercer, first wife of 45 years Josie Powell Campbell, and second wife of 11 years Linda Hartsfield Campbell. He is survived by sister Elizabeth Pinkerton of Tyler, Texas; brothers Jesse Gordon Campbell of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and James Allen Campbell of Lindale, Texas; son Lloyd A. Campbell and granddaughter Vanessa C. Campbell of Dallas; son Glenn D. Campbell, daughter-in-law Christine Ramirez-Campbell, step-grandson Michael Patsche, step-granddaughter Gina Jacaway, and step-greatgrandson George Jacaway, IV, of Springfield, Illinois; step-daughters Lynne Reynolds of Captain Cook, Hawaii, and Karen Ducket of Hope, Arkansas; and step-sons Dick Hartsfield of Anchorage, Alaska, and Mike Hartsfield of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Visitation will be 10:00 to 12:00 on February 4, 2008, interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park, with burial following immediately. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice or to the Lincoln College Mammoth Project, Lincoln College, 300 Keokuk St., Lincoln, Illinois, 62656.
