A. F. Lucas, pioneer of western Kiowa county passed away Sunday night, dying of heart failure. With Mrs. Lucas he had spent Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ray Sunderland [Note: Mrs. Slim Ray] in Lone Wolf and after returning home had taken a wagon load of grain to the Carl Osthus home to store in a barn out of the weather over Sunday night and was leading his team of mules home when the attack struck him as he passed the Riley Logsdon home. Hearing the groans the Logsdons rushed to his assistance, bringing him to town and he was dead when they removed him from the car to Dr. Boone's office.
Deceased settled on the present homestead two and one-half miles west of town at the opening of country and has lived here since and his sudden death was indeed a shock to our community. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Ted and Frank and 5 daughters, Mrs. Burnice Turman, Mrs. Sid McGee, Mrs. Billie Winters, and Mrs. Slim Ray of Lone Wolf and Mrs. Bill Pruitt of Kewanee, Ill., eleven grandchildren all but three of whom are present for the funeral, a brother, Mack Lucas of Forgan, Okla., and two nephews, Arb Cooley of Forgan and Linnie Jacobs of Kewanee who also came for the funeral.
Deceased and his family have hosts of friends all over this section who extend sympathy to those left to mourn his departure. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. E. D. Gregory. Burial was made in the Lone Wolf cemetery.
