Story Gott was born 26 March 1733 Hebron, Connecticut son of John Gott, Jr. Story Gott married 17 June 1756, Susannah Holdridge, both of Hebron.

He attained the rank of Sergeant during the French and Indian War, serving in 1756.

Story and his family evidently removed about 1774 to Austerlitz, New York, according to the pension deposition of son, Story Gott, Jr.

Story Gott was enumerated in the 1790 census of Canaan, Columbia County, New York as History Gott with one male of age sixteen and over (born before 1774), three males under age sixteen (born 1775-90), and three females. This was the elder Story Gott and he was about 57 years of age in 1790. His son, Story Gott, Jr., was enumerated in Hillsdale, Columbia County in 1790 with one male of age sixteen and over (born before 1774), three males under age sixteen (born 1775-90) and two females. They perhaps lived in that portion that became Austerlitz, which had not yet been created. The Story Gott in Hillsdale was enumerated as a junior, suggesting his father was yet living. Also, enumerated in Hillsdale was John Gott with one male of age sixteen and over (born before 1774), one male under age sixteen (born 1775- 90), and two females.

Story Gott and some of his younger children removed to that area that became East Worcester in the town of Worcester, Otsego County, New York. Story appears on the 1799 assessment list of Worcester, Otsego County, New York along with Adolphus Gott and the same for 1800. Story does not appear on the 1801 and later assessments. Story Gott was not enumerated in Worcester in 1800. The official enumeration day of the 1800 census was 4 August 1800. The 1800 census for Otsego County was finalized on 17 March 1801. Perhaps Story died between the 1800 assessment and 1800 census enumeration dates.

Story Gott's daughter, Lucretia who married Joshua Woodworth was not enumerated in Joshua's household in the 1800 census of Worcester. Joshua Woodworth was enumerated as living alone and next to Adolphus and David Gott in 1800, sons of Story Gott. The assumption is that Lucretia removed with her parents to Worcester, from Austerlitz, and was enumerated in one of the other Gott households in the 1800 census enumeration. Story's son, Adolphus Gott had a female of age forty five and over (born before 1755) in his 1800 household. It is unknown who this female was, but a possibility could be Susannah Holdridge, the wife of Story Gott.

2. John Gott born 3 March 1759 Hebron (vital record) married Sarah Rowlands.
