Dies at Home of Mrs. Myron Donnell, Neice---Last Rites Saturday

Joseph Perry Showalter, 79, passed away at 6 o'clock this morning at the home of his neice, Mrs. Myron Donnell, near Kington. He had been in failing health for the past five months and seriously ill for two weeks.

Mr. Showalter was born in Franklin County on Nov. 9, 1861, the youngest son of Jacob and Elizabeth Bull Showalter, who were early settlers of Indiana, coming to this state by covered wagon from Harrisonburg, Virginia.

On Nov. 22, 1882, he was married to Ida P. Sloan, who preceded him in death nearly 12 years ago. To this union one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Laura) Walke, of Rush County, was born. The (???) married life of the couple was spent on their farm four miles east of Kingston. Shortly after the death of his wife, Mr. Showalter went to the home of his neice, Mrs. Myron (Bessie) Donnell, with whom he had since resided.

For he past 42 years he had been a member of Greensburg lodge No. 148, Knights of Pythias, joining in 1899.

Besides the daughter and the neice, Mr. Showalter is survived by nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren as well as a number of other relatives and friends. The body has been taken to the home of Myron Donnell, where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening.

Funeral services will be held at the Memorial Church at 2 P. M. Saturday. The Rev. Walter Crowley, an old friend of the family, will officiate. A short prayer service will be held at the house just prior to leaving for the church. Burial will be in the Carmel Cemetery with the K of P lodge in charge.
