Garnie Lee Edwards left this life on October 12, 2022. He passed at his home in Warren, Michigan and fell asleep in the Lord. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Edwards. On October 2, 2022, they would have celebrated 66 years since their union.

Garnie came from a background of primitive Baptist Faith, of which Hadley Edwards, his father belonged. Garnie was born in Haysi, Virginia, on June 9, 1932 to Eva Edwards, wife of Hadley. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Phane, Palmer, Kelly and Freeman all of Haysi, Virginia. A surviving brother Lawrence Hadley remains. He is survived by three children, eldest daughter Debbie (Tom) Knox of Leonard, Michigan, Rick Edwards of Madison Heights, Michigan and Belinda Edwards of Warren, Michigan. From the children were two grandchildren Amy Kristen Camaj and Christopher Steven Gmyrek. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren.

Garnie resided in Warren for over 56 years. Moving to Michigan in the late 1950's, among other jobs was a machinist at Zero Grinding in Detroit, Michigan. He enjoyed family reunions and vacations in his home state of Virginia for many years. He had numerous nieces and nephews that reside in Virginia. He enjoyed riding bikes until 88 years old. He like to ride his bike in Warren. Every year he grew tomatoes, which numerous people enjoyed. He served after being drafted at a young age in Korea for the army. His term was for two years. He loved summers in Michigan, and every June gathered all the family for a birthday celebration. He had numerous family and friends and loved Texas Roadhouse steakhouse. Christmas was a time of joy for him, and no family member did without. He lived a faithful life and will leave an absence on this earth, but is joined to the presence of the Lord in that absence.

A visitation for Garnie will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071. Visitation will continue Monday, October 17, 2022 starting at 12:00 pm at the funeral home followed by a home going celebration at 1:00 pm. Garnie will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
