James Berkley "J.B." Benton, Jr., of Ruffin, departed this life for Heavenly rest February 1 in Charleston.

He was a son of the late James Berkley Benton, Sr., and Earlean Bishop Benton.

"JB" was a retired automobile mechanic with Al Gallman Pontiac in Ft. Myers, FL and Walterboro Auto Electric. He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran, a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church #1 where he was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, a fifty year member of the Hudson Masonic Lodge #373, A.F.M. and member of the American Legion. He was an avid car racing fan. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and a special great grandfather who was a very special friend to everyone.

Surviving are: his wife of 59 years, Bessie Kinard Benton; daughter, Alice Benton Walden and husband, Jim of Bryceville, FL; brothers, Keith Benton and wife Syble of Ruffin, Kenwood Benton of Redding, CA, Al Benton of Ridgecrest, CA and Ray Benton and wife, Sue of Middleburg, FL; sisters, Wilhelmenia Vinczi of Ruffin and Mary Wilson and husband, Charles of Charlotte Courthouse, VA; a special sister-in-law, Leona Hughes of Ruffin; grandchildren, Cale Benton-Pelton, Jimmy Walden, Jr., Cara Judd and Frank Walden; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Allen Benton.

Interment was in his church cemetery, Pine Grove Baptist Church #1, with Masonic Rites and Military Honors.
