ARCHIBALD C. "Archie" DRAGGE October 2, 1909 November 29, 2001 passed away peacefully at the age of 92 in Alameda, California.

Preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Calyn (Lynn) on May 28, 1992.

Lt. Cmdr., Ret. Dragge is survived by daughter, Sally Hyman of Taylors, S.C., son, Robert Dragge of San Carlos, CA; sister Bernice Lee of Omaha, Neb; sister, Inez Cozens of Haverford, PA; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dragge was born October 2, 1909 in Fargo, N.D. and graduated from the one room grade school at Wild Rice, N.D. He then worked on his grandfather's and neighboring farms prior to attending a term at North Dakota Agricultural College.

He enlisted in the Navy on February 7, 1926 and was to serve the next 31 years in service of his country.

Mr. Dragge married Minni Colyn Chase on August 2, 1933. Due to his military obligations, the family was to move regularly during their marriage.

Mr. Dragge and his wife were to have two children, Sally and Robert.

Since his military obligations required frequent separation from his family, he was always quick to give his wife, Lynn, credit for the raising of the children.

At the beginning of World War II, Mr.Dragge was attached to the submarine tender Antacus (AS21) which later served as a transport in convoys to avoid German submarines. He was proud of his service in the World War II, in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets.

He served in the closing phases of the Okinawan campaign where he was attached to the flagship U.S.S. Norton Sound (AV11), Fleet Air Wing One.

During the war, he was promoted to the rank of a commissioned officer. He was to rise to the rank of Lt. Cmdr.

His final duty assignment was in Washington D.C. where he served from 1950 to 1957. He participated in a joint task force, which detonated the first "H" bomb on the Enewetok Atoll in 1952. Further tests were made on the Bikini Atoll in 1954.

Lt. Comdr. Dragge retired in 1957 to the City of Alameda where he lived since that time.

He attended Oakland City College and Hayward State College obtaining an AA degree in Architectural Drafting while working nights and weekends at U.S. Steel.

Since that time he had been kept busy compiling and maintaining family histories.

He was an avid reader and kept in touch with friends and relatives with letters.

His charm and wit will be missed not only by his family but also by the many friends he had made in Alameda during his regular walks to Park St.

Memorial Services will be held on Monday January 7, 2002 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1323 Central Ave., Alameda, CA at 11:00 O'clock AM with a reception following the service.

Private interment with military honors, to be held at the Presidio, San Francisco.
