MUCH APPRECIATION to the late Robert Lewis "Bob" Achor, without whose diligent and creative dedication to Achor genealogy, this memorial would probably not exist. Among other things, Bob was responsible for the large modern tombstone for John Achor (d. 1840) and for the "Correction" stone pictured on this memorial.

Clinton Co cemetery database (2018) (based on inscriptions compiled by the Clinton Co Genealogical Society and published in hardbound book editions in 1978 and 1999) lists this man as "John Acre" and says, "B. Germany, D. 1-1814, Revolutionary War Veteran, wife Mary Acre; son John Acre (Achor)Jr.; grandson Daniel Achor."

The inclusion of John Acre (d. 1814) in the Clinton Co cemetery database was surely inspired by the mentions of him on the large modern stone for his son and on the "Correction" stone adjacent to it. The fact that one of those said John (d. 1814) "died here," does not, of course, necessarily guarantee that John (d. 1814) is buried in Achor Cemetery, although that is probable.

The modern stones reference the discovery of the 1814 and 1817 probate documents (see images on this memorial). Why are those documents not in Clinton Co? The County Probate Court was not established in 1814, hence the larger Court of General Jurisdiction (Court of Common Pleas) had jurisdiction. The Blegen branch of the University of Cincinnati Library has the only collection of these old records for the "southwestern Ohio counties." Ohio has established several such record depositories for different geographical areas of the state. {Per Robert L. Achor]
