Obituary, The Saginaw [MI] News, 7 Dec 2007:

Abbe, Eleanor Formerly of Saginaw

Eleanor Abbe, of Carolina Village in Hendersonville, NC, passed away Monday morning, December 3rd, 2007. She loved the Lord Jesus and looked forward to her eternal reward. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hendersonville, NC.

Eleanor was born in Pigeon, Michigan. After marrying and raising four children in Saginaw, Michigan, Eleanor trained to become an interior designer. She very much enjoyed working in this field for several years. Her husband, Kenneth W. Abbe, preceded her in death on June 13, 1993. They met on a high school band trip to Holland, Michigan, where they both played trombone for a famous tulip festival. Married in 1937 [1938], they soon opened what would become a very successful independent insurance agency.

Eleanor is survived by her four loving children, Jean Burke, James Abbe (Alice Abbe), Mary Johnson (Dr. Randall Johnson), and Mark Abbe; nine grandchildren, Michael Burke, (Kelly Burke), Patricia Gunderson, (Todd Gunderson), Susan Heil, (Greg Heil), Chris Abbe (Brook Abbe), Dr Jeffrey Johnson, Katherine Burke (Jude Burke), Dr. Melissa Johnson, Bryan Abbe and Robert Abbe; nine great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Home for Children, 80 Lake Eden Rd., Black Mountain, NC 28711, or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 551 Thirty-Sixth St. SE, Wyoming, MI, 49548.
