He enlisted in the US Army in 1964 and served 21 years in Army intelligence, including a tour in Vietnam and a tour in Thailand. Among his military awards and decorations was the Bronze Star.

He was predeceased by his parents, Katherine Maxine Johnson Baasch and August Henning Baasch. He was survived by his wife of 46 years; his four children; seven grandchildren; and two brothers.

Interment on October 12, 2022.
