Virgil Finis Neal, 93, of Decatur, formerly of Atlanta passed away February 3, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma Morris Neal, his parents; three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by daughter, Sheron Meyers; two granddaughters, Michele Griser and Jeannine Suda and her husband Ken; three great grandchildren, Lee, Amber and Jacob Suda; and several nieces and nephews. He was a Mason for 50 plus years reaching the 32nd degree with Lodge 543 F. & A. M. He was regularly received, admitted and constituted a Noble of the Mystic Shrine on June 12, 1968 in the Scottish rite at Yaarab Shrine Temple of Atlanta, GA. He was an electrician by trade and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over sixty years. Mr. Neal served as president and financial secretary of IBW Local 613 simultaneously from 1965 to 1980. He was instrumental in acquiring the property and guiding the construction of the current IBEW building, as well as, the Apprentice Educational Building at the same location. He was a life long Methodist and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Conyers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 S. Columbia Dr., Decatur, GA 30030 to assist in the rebuilding of a dormitory recently destroyed by fire. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 7th. The Reverend Robert Brown of Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Conyers will officiate. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 5th, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, February 6th at A. S. Turner & Sons.
