James Woody Smithey,67, passed away at his home on the afternoon of July 17, 2007 at 2:00 after a courageous, but short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Carl Smithey and Hazel Spence Smithey Newbille. He was a former sheriff's deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department in Chattanooga, TN, a former Chattanooga Auxillary Policeman, the former Chief of Security at Hamilton Place Mall in Chattanooga, TN, and a former corrections officer at Silverdale Correctional Institute in Chattanooga, TN.
He was preceeded in death by his son, James Woody Smithey, Jr.
He was also preceeded in death by his brothers, Jack Donald Smithey and Ralph Waymon (Raymond)Smithey and his sister, Mildred Smithey Ricketts.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Atsey. His loving daughters and their husbands, Rhonda & Kevin Arnold and Angela & Rick Ross. He also has five beautiful grandchildren whom he loved and worshiped, Christopher, Aaron, & Bethany Arnold and Mayrelyn & Leah Bohanon.
He also leaves behind a sister and brother to cherish his memories, Wanda Newbille Hall and William Don Newbille.
He was the best Daddy in the world. He sacrified everything for his family and was a hard worker. He will be forever loved and missed and will never be forgotten. Love you always our little knothead oinker Daddy.
