Merrill Lee Moreland, Sr., 81, of Charlestown, IN passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022, at home. Mr. Moreland was born on May 7, 1941, in Bethlehem, IN the son of Leo Smitty and Dorcas Wilson Moreland.
He worked as a deck hand in his younger years then changed careers to Autobody Repair starting with Park Street Body Shop in Charlestown and finished his career with McBride River Fleet Recovery in New Albany, IN. Merrill was a member of New Washington First Baptist Church. Some of his many joys in life were working on Cars especially his blue and white 1956 Chevy, fishing, hunting, drives through the country and Bethlehem; and his dreams of living in Florida by the ocean.
Survivors include his children, Merrill Moreland Jr. of New Washington, IN, Leo Timothy Moreland of Richmond, IN, Louis Ray Moreland of Charlestown, IN, Kevin Gerald Moreland of Charlestown, and Bobbie Jo Pettit of Hanover, IN; sister, Arlea Armstrong of Virginia; brothers, Doug Moreland of Charlestown, IN, Wendell Moreland of Charlestown, IN, and Gene Moreland of Florida; daughter-in-law, Kathy Moreland of Charlestown, IN; grandchildren, Nicole, Leo Timothy Jr., Samantha, Christopher, Becca, Stanley, Logan, Jackson, Ashland, J. C., and Isiah; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Merrill was preceded in death by his, parents, wife, Freida Sue Wagner Moreland in 2013; sisters, Frances Singer, and Betty Sizemore.
Life Celebration services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
