Milton Joseph "Mick" Chouinard, 68 of Pittsburg Kansas, died at 4:47 am Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO.

He was born June 10, 1939, in California, Mo., the son of Alexander and Sally Jobe Chouinard.

On August 18, 1962 he was united in marriage to Beverly Fields in Independence, KS, she survives him of the home.

Mick graduated from the Independence High School in 1957, he then went to the Independence Community College where he attained an Associates Degree. He went on to Kansas State Teachers College. In 1966 he received a degree in teaching, specializing in math, chemistry, physics and calculus.

He worked as a stonemason. He also was a teacher for 22 years in Frontenac and 3 years in Galena school systems.

Mick owned the Chouinard Building Restoration Company.

Additional survivors include a sister Marie Smith and her husband Curtis of Independence, KS and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mick graduated from the Independence High School in 1957, he then went to the Independence Community College where he attained an Associates Degree. He went on to Kansas State Teachers College. In 1966 he received a degree in teaching, specializing in math, chemistry, physics and calculus.

He worked as a stonemason with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft workers Local #15. He also was a teacher for 22 years in Frontenac and 3 years in Galena school systems.

Mick owned the Chouinard Building Restoration Company which included working on buildings in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. As a volunteer, Mick assisted with the building of Pittsburg's First Christian Church Disciples of Christ at its current location. He also volunteered as the captain of the east wall team to raise the Auburn Kansas Christian Church.

He enjoyed bowling, golf, the Heartland Antique Auto Club, the Rolls Royce Owners Club and tutoring students in various levels of math. Mick mentored many young men in masonry. Most of all he enjoyed visiting with family, friends and strangers.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Arensman officiating. Burial will be 1 pm Thursday, February 7 at the Harrisonville Cemetery near Independence. The casket will remain closed. Friends may call at his home at 914 S. Catalpa in Pittsburg.
