March 19, 1975 Stamford Mirror-Recorder – A. Weston Smith Jr., 74. of Lockmere Lodge. Hollytree Road, Stamford, a noted columnist for the Wall Street Transcript died unexpectedly Monday, March 17 at the Community hospital. Stamford He was born Jan. 28, 1901 at Brooklyn, the son of Anson Weston and Clara (Sharp) Smith. He was previously married to Rosamond Mabel Small September 26, 1925 NYC, and on July 20, 1943 he married Marjorie Ann Young in New York City He had been a resident of Stamford for the past eleven years, having formerly lived at Short Hills. N.J. He was a former member of the Stamford Kiwanis club During his residency in Stamford, he became widely known as "Kahn-Du the Magician." performing for many benefits. He graduated from New York University, 1925. B.C.S. He was formerly employed by Moody's Investor's Service, 1924-16; was a statistician for Guenther Publishing Corporation 1926-28, Associate Editor 1928-37 and business editor. 1937-42. He was originator and director of the financial world's annual report survey of five thousand reports. 1941-61; vice president and public relations director 1943-1948. and executive vice president 1949-56 Organizer and president of Weston Smith Assos., a public relations firm. 1956-64. public relations director of the Delaware county chamber of commerce, Delhi, 1964-68; news columnist for the Wall Street Transcript where he wrote the weekly - column Wall-To Wall-Street 1965 75; chairman of the Investors opinion research institute; director graduate school of business administration of New York University, 1957-60; introduced the Oscar of the Industry awards for the hundred best corporate annual reports and directed the annual awards banquet for presenting trophies 1945-61; served with the Signal Corps New York National Guard 1917-18; 2nd Lt. U.S. Army 1919-1920; Capt auxiliary police Office of Civilian Defense, 1943-45; 1st Lt. Civil Air Patrol, USAAF. New York 1953-60. He was awarded the AAvil of Opinion from the American Public Relation Association. 1946; annual Achievement award public relations news 1950; listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East. Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Finance and Industry; Certificate of Merit from the Freedom Foundation 1951; blue ribbon award United Shareholders of America 1955: named a Knight of Mark Twain 1968; member of the Public Relation Society of America (Board of Directors 1945-47. President, New York Chapter 1947-48); member of the international parental association; Society of American Magicians; International platform association. He is survived by his wife, a daughter. Mrs Emile (Joan) Achee of Fullerton. Calif. two sons, Stuart Weston of Stamford and Robert Weston of Beverly Hills, Calif; a brother. Lewis Smith of Irvington on Hudson, and a niece. Funeral services will be held 2 p m Friday, March 21 at the Hall funeral home. Stamford, with Rev Walter H Everett, pastor of the Stamford United Methodist church, officiating The burial will be in Stamford. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience The family will be in attendance after 7 pm Thursday In lieu of flowers, those that wish may make contributions to the cardiac unit of Community hospital, Stamford. (son Robert was a radio disc jockey 1960's-80's known as "Wolfman Jack")
