Chelsea.---[news items] ..... The many friends of Dr. A.B. Smith will be pained to learn of the death of his wife. She had been a great sufferer from consumption for some months and had failed rapidly in the last few weeks, passing away, Saturday morning last, as quietly as if sleeping. All that could be done to stay the terrible disease was done, but all in vain. She leaves one little girl, three years old, as a comfort to the sorrowing husband. [Vermont Watchman and State Journal, Montpelier, Vt., Wed., April 1, 1885, p.8]
East Burke [news items] Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Amidon (accompanied by their children, Misses Jennie and Bell, O.C. Amidon of St. Johnsbury and Carl C. of Lyndon) attended the funeral of their daughter Nettie at Chelsea, Vt., Tuesday, March 31st. Rev. Mr. Knapp officiated. She was buried at Chelsea by the side of her little son. She died suddenly, on the 28th of March. Her health had been slowly failing for several years from consumption, but her death was not expected so soon as it came and proved a shock to all. She was only 29 years of age, was married Nov. 18, 1876, to Dr. A.B. Smith, then practising at East Burke, and leaves a little daughter about three years of age. She was a member of the Baptist church in this place. She had many warm friends who deeply mourn her early death and will ever remember "the sweet face under the coffin lid." [St. Johnsbury Republican, St. Johnsbury, Vermont, Thurs., April 9, 1885, p.9]
