Anne B. Stephens
November 22, 1937 - September 24, 2022

Oceanside, CA --- Hearts are heavy around the world this week - for another beloved Queen has laid down her crown to rest in paradise. Well, we're not sure how much "rest" will be going on as our queen's paradise surely consists of Stella Artois beer, live bluegrass sounds, stand up comedy, southern delicacies, an entire fleet of Chippendales dancers, and a hell of a lot of dogs. Anne B. Stephens passed away on Saturday, September 24th 2022, at her home in Oceanside, California.

Anne Brooks Morgan was born to Evelyn Brooks and Wayne Morgan in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 22nd 1937. Big sister to Ed, Vicky and George - her caring nature started early in life. She often led the charge in gathering her family together - a talent she passed on to her children.

Anne began her career in the mailroom at the Bank of Bellevue. She worked her way to the top, becoming Vice President before moving to California where she continued to climb in the banking and finance industry. Eventually she moved into the world of politics working as Chief Deputy for Riverside County Supervisor John Tavaglione until she retired near the beach in Oceanside.

One of the characteristics that truly defined Anne was her role as a mother. She gave birth to eight daughters, Rebecca, Jeanette, Christine, Kelley, Kimberley, Nora, Susan, and Joan.

In 1962 Anne married John Stephens and together they enjoyed adventuring around the country throughout his career in the US Air Force. In 1982, John retired and the family settled in California where John preceded her in death in January 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, and two of her grandchildren, Dylan and Charles. Anne always referred to John fondly as her best friend. It makes us smile to know they are reunited now in spirit and buried together after so many years apart.

Anne's open heart and relentless generosity extended far beyond her friends and family. She was very active in her community, as a leader and volunteer. She started an Air Force Wife's Club, served as a Chamber of Commerce President and member where she organized chamber mixers, helped with the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival and participated in countless fundraisers, chili cookoffs, pancake breakfasts, and funnel cake stands. She was also President of her local Widows/Widowers group and often extended holiday dinner invitations to new widows so they wouldn't be alone. A devoted animal lover, she hosted an annual luncheon to honor her favorite veterinary staff and gave countless contributions to help provide stray and unwanted dogs with a loving home - often her own. Seriously, at one point, she was caring for seven different pups. It was chaos to most and yet to her, it was bliss.

But nothing compared to the deeply profound happiness she felt when spending time with her human family. Her sparkling legacy lives on through her three siblings, eight daughters, twenty two grandchildren, and twenty five n counting great grandchildren. The abundant memories made together are bursting with her unmatched cooking, unwavering positivity, encouragement, wisdom, humor (however questionable), and undeniable zest for life. She loved to travel and had the chance to do so often and far reaching - always bringing family along to explore with her.

Wherever this new journey may lead her, we know that to her, paradise has always been an attitude, not a destination. She embodied this in every moment spent with her loved ones. In every lovingly prepared meal. In every laugh shared. Oh, how she laughed and made others do the same through her sassy t-shirts, consistently unorthodox gifts (always wrapped in plastic carrier bags), and of course, her annual birthday phone call complete with her special singing voice that only sounded wonderful to us.

To know her was to know joy. She inspired as fiercely as she entertained. She loved as widely as she lived and will always be remembered as a cascading force of warmth, kindness, and let's be honest - sequins.

We will be celebrating Anne's life at 2:00pm on Monday, October 10th, 2022 at Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518 with a reception to follow at The Cactus Cantina located at 151 E Alessandro Blvd, Riverside, CA 92508. All who knew her are welcome to join us as we say Auf Wiedersehen (until we meet again) to our dear butterfly. To honor Anne's bright shining memory, we ask that you wear bright colors or cheetah print.

Fly free, our beautiful, bright red Queen matriarch. We'll miss you with all of our hearts but know we will see you in the butterflies we meet, hear you in the laughter we share, and adore you, forever.
