Donna BARNES

Donna BARNES, 71, of Perryton, passed away peacefully at her home on Sept. 28, 2002.

A visitation was held on Oct. 1, 2022 and cremation arrangements are being handled by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

Donna Elaine HOBSON was born May 31, 1951 to Bobby and Jeanne HOBSON in Tulsa, OK. She enjoyed her childhood years in Tulsa bantering with her two older sisters and cherished her summers visiting her grandmother in Shawnee, OK.

She graduated from Tulsa Memorial High School in Tulsa in 1969 and then moved to Stillwater, OK to study business at Oklahoma State University, where she pledged Chi Omega sorority. At OSU she met her husband Gilbert BARNES of Balko, OK and they were married July 27, 1973.

After graduating, Donna and Gilbert moved to Perryton, where Donna pursued many eclectic interests. They took many ski trips together all over the Rockies in their early years. Donna was also an avid bowler and even won the women's national bowling title in the late 1970's.

She loved to play games of all sorts especially cards and dominos with her friends, and she devoted many years (and travel hours) watching her kids and grandkids play various sports. She amassed many unique collections including green glass bottles and old menus from her most memorable restaurants.

She adored animals and nurtured many pets throughout the years including dogs, cats, fish, turtles, and even a jack rabbit rescued by her son from the field. She also took great pride in having the greenest most pristine lawn complete with neatly trimmed trees and flowers.

Donna devoted countless hours to genealogy research. She visited numerous libraries and cemeteries all over the United States compiling and completing records from her own lineage and those of many others, friends and strangers alike.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby and Jeanne HOBSON.

She is survived by husband, Gilbert; son Brock (Jara) BARNES of Amarillo; Bethany (David) WEAVER of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Brae BARNES of College Station, Creed BARNES of Amarillo, Briley BARNES, Brenna WEAVER, and Brecken WEAVER, all of Tulsa, OK; two sisters, Jeannine HANNER of Tulsa, OK, Janice (Mike) HOBSON of St. Louis, MO; and lifelong friend Debbie PHENIX of Reno, NV.

Family suggests memorial be to Gideon's International at gideons.org or to Gideon's International, P. O. Box 254, Perryton, TX 79070.
