Lula Mae (Riddle) Ferris, age 105, of Leonidas, Mich., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Tendercare Nursing Home, in Portage, MI where she had resided the past 8 years.
She was born in Mendon, MI. on May 21, 1893, the daughter of Ethan and Sophronia (McCLISH) RIDDLE, and was a lifetime resident of the Mendon-Leondias area.
After attending Country School, she worked briefly at Guy Marsh's Dairy. The Wakeman House in Mendon and Lee Paper Co. in Vicksburg. She was a farm wife following her marriage to Orris FERRIS in Leonidas, and took great pride in homemaking and assisting on the farm.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orris; 2 sisters, Flossie MILLER and Madge BARRETT; 2 brothers, Irvin and Sellie RIDDLE; 2 nieces, Cleta O'CONNER and Donna SNELL; and a nephew, Everett RIDDLE.
Surviving are 1 niece, June MORLEY of Vicksburg; great-nieces, Kathleen SLATER of Vicksburg, Sharon MORLEY of Pilot, Va., and Karon MORLEY of Leonidas; a great nephew, Kevin MORLEY of Vicksburg; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Reva Hawke, pastor of the West Mendon United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Leonidas Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society, or a charity of one's choice.
