When a young man, a bit of adventurous spirit led him to a lumbering camp in northern Minnesota and hence to settle as a farmer in that area for 20 years, followed by moves to Silverhill, Ala., and to the Eden vicinity. His love of the majestic north has continued to lure him there and much of his last few years were spent in Beltrami County, Minn., where death took him June 19, 1967.
His wife Ethel Beatrice preceded him in death in 1963. Surviving are his son Merrell; two brothers, Frank and Floyd; and two sisters, Anna Harrison and Ellen Schmitt, all of Wauneta; and 19 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 23 at the Eden Missionary church, Rev. John Reside officiating. Singers were Don Egle and Mrs. Herman Bley, accompanist, Mrs. Don Egle. Casket bearers were Dale Maris, Harold Maris, Marvin Maris, Clarence Maris, Ervin Maris and Delbert Maris. Internment in Eden cemetery, Brunkhorst Funeral Home in charge.
