Fred McInturff passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Atrium Health Cabarrus with his family by his side.

Fred was born in Hagerstown, Md., to Fred T. and Erma Clingerman McInturff on April 12, 1945.

He was awarded the Eagle Scout medal during the winter of 1959, stamping his love of country which led to his service in the Army.

During his Army time, Fred served in Vietnam earning four medals for his service. Following his service, he enjoyed a 32-year career as a cable technician for Southern Bell Company while residing in Coral Springs, Fla.

Upon retirement in 1997, he returned to his roots in West Virginia where he turned his talents to making funnel cakes, trout fishing and travelling to see cherished family and friends. Fred was a skilled woodworker and loved spending time in his barn making things and perfecting the family apple butter recipe.

He loved his roles of husband and father, doting on his girls every day. Later in life, Fred took on one of his favorite roles of Pop Pop. He moved to Mt. Gilead, N.C., in 2021 to be closer to his greatest joy, his granddaughter Ella.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Wendy; children Michelle Cumming (husband Steve and daughter Ella), of Albemarle, N.C., Shelly McInturff, of Coral Springs, Fla., and sister Velda Hoffman (husband Calvin), of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Fred was predeceased by sisters Virginia Mellott and Wilma Woods.
