J. Nelson Thomas Dies Suddenly
---
Well Known Verona Citizen Stricken By Heart Failure; Funeral Today
---
J. Nelson Thomas, who would have celebrated his 68th birthday on June 30th, was stricken suddenly Monday at 11:30 in the garden at his home in Verona and expired within a few minutes. Death was attributed to heart failure from which Mr. Thomas had suffered for some time. He was working in the garden when he uttered a noise indicative of something wrong and his wife, who was nearby picking lettuce, rushed to his side in time to ease his fall. He was carried into the house and expired a few minutes after Dr. Christian, local physician, arrived.

Funeral will be held this Thursday afternoon from Trinity Lutheran church of Lewisburg. The hour has been fixed at 2:30. Burial will be made in the family lot in Roselawn cemetery beside his wife of a first marriage.

Mr. Thomas was twice married, his first wife having been Mary Ann Chambers who died in Lewisburg about twelve years ago. About eight years ago, he married Mrs. John Smith of Verona, with whom he established a pleasant and hospitable home.

His survivors are his widow, and three children as follows: Bert Thomas of Van Wert, Ohio, who is a Cincinnati Northern railroad man, Mrs. Robert Brower of Columbus and Mrs. Clarence Floyd of Lewisburg. Mrs. Thomas Whipp of near Lewisburg is a sister.

Mr. Thomas held membership for many years in the Lewisburg I.O.O.F. lodge, in which he tool a deep interest. The lodge will participate in the funeral rites.

OBITUARY
---
John Nelson Thomas was born in what is known as the "Little Brown" district, and would have completed his 68th year the 30th day of this June. He lived close by this neighborhood and among his boyhood associates throughout all his days.

In 1882 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Chambers. To them three children were born – Ambert of Van Wert, Mrs. R.G. Brower of Columbus, and Mrs. C.E. Floyd of Lewisburg, all of whom are living; besides these there are six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In 1918 he and the children suffered the loss of this faithful companion and devoted mother.

In 1920 he was again united in marriage to Mrs. Laura Smith of Verona, Ohio. Nine ensuing years of mutual faithfulness and devotion was provided and shared by both, until our Lord beckoned, "Come, thy work has been well done." Our grief in the loss of his companionship will be mellowed by the precious memories of his eager counsel and devotion to the ones near and dear to him.

Yea, as the coming days will call us to the work yet to be done, grief will find no place as our hearts will be filled with joy and thankfulness as we think of the wonderful days of his presence. Consolation is found in the though that each of the coming days will cut short his absence.

He so lived, and worked that those who still live to cherish his memory are proud to open page by page, his book of life.

Peace sweet peace, be unto his soul evermore.
------
We wish to extend our sincere appreciation to neighbors and friends for the many kindnesses shown us during our bereavement.
The Family.
