Corey James Coburn surprised his family early on April 16, 1977. He didn't come home immediately, but learned firsthand the loving care of the medical field that would become a big part of his life. Most of the people around him were not aware of his health issues throughout his life. At the time of his death he wanted to stay at home to spend time with his friends and family. We're sure Vance his little brother came to take him home! Corey passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
Corey grew up in Davis County, attending schools in Layton and Centerville. He graduated from Viewmont High School in 1996. He attended Utah Valley University and Weber State University, but remains a loyal Utes fan! He served a mission in Des Moines, Iowa, but came home early to receive his first heart transplant. He expressed gratitude to the Holy Spirit as a comforter "in the moments of midnight."
Ever since he was young and throughout his life, Corey made fast friends wherever he went. Many of his childhood friends were also lifelong friends. Corey was loved by many at school, work, church, neighborhood, golf course, bowling alley, Stockman and most recently in hospital and especially by family! Corey had a sharp wit that his friends, young and old, would attest. He never complained and made people feel comfortable in every situation.
He loved the game! He learned to imitate his heroes, swing bats, clubs and rackets, and improve his skills by shooting baskets while watching TV games. He loved to compete face to face and would go crazy if everyone didn't play that hard to his advantage. He loved a good cup of coffee in the morning. He loved Lake Powell, went boating with his friends and loved listening to Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, Johnny Cash and Brad Paisley. He loved playing poker. He was a slow and steady player who would grind it out until he either got a good hand or was ready to bluff. He loved dogs and dogs loved him, he looked after everyone's dogs for them. He loved to eat good food at family gatherings but on the road, he appreciated a good corn dog!
Corey loved his large family, his mother, Marsha Case, his husband, Craig, his father, Terry Coburn, his wife Rebecca. His siblings, Chris (Ann), Brittany Coburn Black (Matt); his younger brothers, Chandler (Gabby), Brennan and Austin Coburn; His half-brothers and sisters, Jake (Nicole), Christer, Rick, Nathan, and Kelly Case, Tiffany Veltman and Shannon LaPlant. He adores his nieces (Ella, Millie, Avery, Allie, Abby, Eisley and their nephews, Max and Nico).
Corey is reunited with his brother, Vance Coburn, and grandparents, Mary and Bob Nilsson, Welton Coburn, Sheila, and Del Perry.
