Emanuel Ray Garrison, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, passed away September 20, 2022, at the age of 86.
Ray was born December 25, 1935, in Nuyaka, Oklahoma, to William Franklin Garrison and Aurah Alberta Garrison. He and his wife, Lois Marie Garrison, recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Bonnie Thomas of Okemah, Oklahoma; and sister, Dorothy Kaiser of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Survivors include his wife, Lois Garrison of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; daughter, Loretta Earnest and husband, Matt of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, R. Keith Garrison and wife, Tamme of Muskogee, Oklahoma; grandson, Matt Earnest, Jr. and husband, M. Scott Tatum of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Marshall Earnest of Seattle, Washington; grandson, Jace Garrison and wife, Michelle of Del City, Oklahoma; brother, Roy F. Garrison of Lakeland, Florida; five nieces and three nephews.
Ray began his woodworking career in California, specializing in Millwork and Cabinetry, which included an Apprenticeship where he won 1st place in a 5 County San Francisco Bay Area Mill & Cabinetry Contest and then in 1963 took 2nd place for the state of California. He and Lois later moved to Okmulgee, where he spent 15 years as a Building Construction Instructor at OSU Tech and 15 years as a self-employed Carpenter. Ray also served 15 years as a Housing Inspector and Environmental Specialist for Muscogee (Creek) Nation until his retirement at age 76. His love of music, craftsmanship, learning and auto mechanics was passed along and shared with his children and grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed.
