LaVerna Ahring Waggoner, 98, of Hutchinson died peacefully at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center on September 3, 2022.

LaVerna was born July 8, 1924 in Lincoln, Kansas to Frank Henry Ahring and Jennie (Morrison) Ahring, both descendants of early pioneer families in Lincoln County, Kansas.

LaVerna earned a Bachelors degree in education at Central State College, Edmond, Oklahoma in 1948. After her marriage to James Johnston Waggoner on July 29, 1948, she was a high school teacher for several years and then the mother of six children. She was a resident in Hutchinson for more than fifty years and a member of the Park Place Christian Church.

LaVerna is survived by her brother James Byrd as well as five of her children: James Waggoner Jr., Donald (Stephanie) Waggoner, Paul (Debra) Waggoner, Robert Waggoner (Wendy Wintersteen) and Mary Waggoner. Additionally she is survived by eight grandchildren Andrew (Michelle) Waggoner, Elizabeth (James) Davis, Zoe (Joshua) Schumm, James Waggoner, Sara (Sam) Bookless, Jeff (Sara) Lambert, Jane Waggoner, and Alessandra Waggoner as well as five great-grandchildren, Abigal Schumm, Scarlett and Stella Bookless, and Adler and Metta Davis.

LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her sisters Mary Byrd and Delma Jean Williamson, her brother Robert Ahring and her son David Waggoner.

A private graveside service will take place. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Macular Degeneration Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
