Evan W. Hough, Greenville, passed away peacefully, although unexpectedly, in his sleep at home April 18, 2020. He was 55.
On Oct. 22, 1964, Evan was born in Sharon, a son to Evan R. And Mary (Rust) Hough.
A graduate of Hickory High School, Evan started his working career at MCAR as a group home caregiver, thus starting a constant theme throughout his life of caring for and helping others. He had a passion for helping, as he was a compassionate and giving person by nature.
After his work at MCAR, he pursued a successful career as part of the sales team at Laskey's Furniture Store, where he was greatly loved, and sorely missed when he left to resume his original love: caregiving at Polk State Center.
Evan was a devoted son and an energetic and active man who loved to keep busy by helping others. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, decorating, working and spending time with his family, especially his mother, whom he would visit daily at St. Paul's.
Evan was a wonderful friend to many, and was always available to listen or give a hug and a smile to a friend in need. To know him was to love him.
He is survived by his two sisters, Terri Ghiates, Greenville; and Mary Criss Garrett and her husband Fred, New Wilmington; nephews, Michael Ghiates, Kyle Evan Ghiates, Cory Garrett, Dr. Cayl Garrett and his wife Sehee and Cylind Garrett and his wife Morgan; and two great-nieces, Coda and Ara.
Evan was preceded in death by his father, Evan R. Hough; brother-in-law, Peter Michael Ghiates; and his nephew, Cody Kuykendall.
