ALTON - Merton C. Pressey, 82, husband of the late Beatrice C. Pressey, died peacefully surrounded by his family June 24, 2005, at his residence. He was born July 13, 1922, in Jefferson, a son of Merton C. Sr. and Florence (Brann) Pressey. Mert was a World War II Veteran having served with the 82nd Airborne and completed seven campaigns. He was very proud of his service to his country and to his flag. He was a member of VFW Post No. 3381 and American Legion Post 75 of Old Town. He was employed by H.E. Sergent for many years and retired from James River in 1991. He enjoyed the time spent restoring his truck and was proud of all the trophies his truck won. He is survived by sons, David Pressey and his
wife, Stephanie, of Bangor, Alan Pressey and his wife, Lora, of Pittsfield; daughter, Linda Wood and her husband, John, of Alton; two daughters-in-law, Robin Pickering, of Greenbush, and Amy Fortier of Bangor; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Dewitt and Lola Dubay, both of Fryeburg; special friends, Dick and Alma Burgess, of New Sharon, and Guy and Arline Melcher, of Portland; his special companion, "Buddy"; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Bea, Dec. 10, 2004; and by 10 siblings. Interment with military honors will be conducted 3 p.m. at Alton Cemetery, Alton. (Bangor Daily News 6/272005)
