Afton was born May 2, 1914 in Murray, Utah to Emma Elmen and Hyrum Turner. She was the third of five children. She attended Murray High School, graduating in 1932. Afton was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Afton completed 30 years of service at Mountain Bell Telephone Company (now Qwest), retiring in 1979. On April 21, 1937, she married Vaughn M. Holder in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later divorced. Afton lived most of her life in Midvale, Utah. While married she lived in Pocatello, Idaho. After retiring she had a home in Palm Springs, California and later in St. George, Utah.
Afton is survived by her daughter, Vonnette Holder Rousey; two grandchildren, Kathy Shaw, Brandon James "BJ" Rousey (Natalie); four beautiful granddaughters, Brooke, Paige, Harlee and Ryley. Afton was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glen J. Turner, Claus V. Turner; two sisters, Yvonne Turner Beckstead, Beth Turner Carlson; a son-in-law, James C. Rousey.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State. A Viewing will be held Tuesday, February 5, from 6-8 p.m.
Interment will be in the Midvale City Cemetery.
