The above memorial for William Arthur Binyon states that his mother was Lizzie Elizabeth James, born 1852. William was born in 1862, so Lizzie would have been 10 at that time. In fact, Lizzie was the second wife of William's father John Wesley Binyon. The first wife was Mary E. Gilbert who died sometime after their fourth child Louise was born in 1867, but before 1872 when JW Binyon married Lizzie Elizabeth James I have her name as Jones, as taken from Texas marriage records. They were married 8 Nov 1872.
JW and Mary Gilbert were married 30 Aug 1858 in Alcorn, MS, and had four children: Albert A, born c.1860, William Arthur, born 15 Mar 1862, James J. born c.1864, and C. Louise born c.1867.
This info was written by my father, about 30 years ago:
William Arthur Binyon, affectionately called 'Pop Binnie' by his family, was a son of John Wesley Binyon by John's first (of three) wives). Wm. was born in Alabama in 1861 moved to Henderson County, Texas ca. (1867-1877) and in 1894 married Alice Jane Coffey in Corsicana, Texas. She was thereafter known as 'Mom Binnie.' Pop Binnie apprenticed to be--and did become-- a printer.
He and his wife were parents of three daughters and two sons: Mable (who married Sam Dennis); Rubie who was the wife of James B. Soule'); Lena (WM Wand's wife); Arthur (husband of Myrtle Glenn - first cousin to Sam Dennis); and Roy who died as a young boy from burns after a house fire.
When their children were small, the Binyon family lived in the country near Jacksboro, Texas; then moved ca 1900 to Granbury, Texas ( Hood county). By that date, Pop Binnie was a journeyman printer and he became the publisher of the Graphic Truth, a weekly newspaper. His children helped out in the business when they were old enough to do so. Wm. A. Binyon served a term as mayor of Granbury also.
In 1910 when he was 49 years of age, Pop Binnie decided to become a minister of the gospel! He had been very active in his local church and so went to his Presbytery (the regional ruling body of the Presbyterian church) to talk with them about being a Presbyterian minister --with little hope of success. It was almost a unvaried rule that all Presbyterian preachers were required to be graduates of a theological seminary which Pop Binnie was not. He had made up his mind that he would probably have to be a Baptist preacher, since that denomination did not require seminary graduation for ordination. Much to his delight and surprise, his Presbytery granted him the right be become a Presbyterian minister. He served churches in small towns in the vicinity of Fort Worth-Dallas from 1911 until he retired in 1930.
Here is a chronological list of places he served as pastors Watauga, Sanger, Krum, Crowley, Rhome, Red Oak, Valley View, and finally Grapevine. Mom Binnie (nee Alice Jane Coffey died in 1930, shortly after he retired and William A Binyon passed away in 1934. Both of them were then living with their oldest daughter , Mrs Mable Dennis of Fort Worth.
.
W.A. and Alice Binyon were children of farmers and they led a simple life guided by Christian principles which they passed on to their children and grandchildren. They are both buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, near Handley, just east of Fort Worth. --end

Thought I would pass this along. James Patrick Williams, great-grandson of William Arthur Binyon.
