Janet Kay Jenkins, age 77, of Sterling, went peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday, September 5, 2022 after a long battle with cancer.

Kay was born November 17, 1944 in Geneva, the daughter of Mildred Jarrett. Kay attended Sterling schools and was a 1964 graduate of Sterling High School.

She worked many jobs in Sterling, most recently, being a volunteer at CGH for six years before she fell ill.

Kay enjoyed women's basketball, Tennessee Volz being her favorite, although she cheered for them all.

She was a faithful member of the Full Gospel Assembly in Sterling for over 60 years. It was there that she met the love of her life, Wally Jenkins. They were married on November 14, 1971. He passed away on August 8, 2001.

Kay was active in her church ministry of helping others, playing in the band, singing with the pianist and being a server when there was a dinner or coffee house. She enjoyed serving people.

Kay loved to travel. She's been all over the USA, Canada and the Bahamas, helping in church services wherever she went.

Never meeting a stranger, "God is Faithful", was her phrase.

She is survived by one brother, Mike (Jackie) Shugars of AZ; three sisters, Pat (Lurk) Miller of Rock Falls, Linda Lampert of Marshalltown, IA, and Marcia Frey of Mt. Morris; two sons, Wendell (Kat) Jenkins of FL and Darrall Jenkins of TN; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a very special aunt to the Jordan family; several nieces and nephews; adopted grama to Debra Boehme and Drew (Julie) Boehma and adopted great grama to Mollie Boehme; and special friends, Edie Reynolds, Sally Pennell and Pam Boehme.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Wayne Jenkins; and one brother, Danny Shugars.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 10:00 AM – Noon with the funeral following at Noon at Full Gospel Assembly, 3805 River Road, in Sterling with Pastor Brian Deseno officiating. Burial will be at Mineral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
