MERIDIAN, IDAHO - In the early morning hours of Monday, September 5, 2022 LaThare "Lee" Nathan Bodily, 90, departed this earthly existence surrounded by his family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. LaThare considered his family to be his greatest accomplishment. In return, his family loved him and held him in the highest esteem. Everyone in the family loved his quick wit and dry humor.

LaThare was the son of Reed Fisher Bodily and Olen Orabus Hunting. He was born on March 3, 1932, in Vernal, Utah where he was raised and educated. He was the second oldest of eleven children.

He attended Brigham Young University where he met the love of his life, Ruth Jeanine Thurber. They were married on December 28, 1952 in Great Falls, Montana and later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple December 17, 1956.

LaThare continued his education and graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree from Utah State University. After graduation, he was hired by Hewlett-Packard and the family moved to Palo Alto, California. While working at HP, he earned a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Later the family moved to Los Altos, California.

LaThare was the HP lead engineer on the World Wide Time Synchronization project (1966). This four-year project would literally set the world on time. Over three-and-a-half years he traveled on four different trips to more than 40 nations and over 100 locations around the world with the "flying atomic clock" (HP 5060A cesium-beam frequency standard clock) to set the world on time. The immediate impact of his work was on NASA's Space program with improved accurate landing zones for the Apollo program. Today, his contribution is seen in any electronic device which requires accurate time measurements and GPS systems.

HP promoted LaThare to the head of the Integrated Circuit Division. After 25 years at HP he accepted the position of President for Handar Corporation which specialized in remote automated weather stations. He retired from Handar in 1996 and moved to Eagle, Idaho to be closer to family.

LaThare had many interests and hobbies and was always trying something new. He collected coins and stamps as a youth. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, skiing, and beekeeping with an observance hive inside his Los Altos home. In retirement he enjoyed hosting family pool parties and playing the stock market. He was the chairman of the Eagle, Idaho Fun Days Parade for several years. His membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a lifelong commitment. He served as a scoutmaster, primary teacher, home teacher, ward clerk, seventy, bishop, and temple ordinance worker (Oakland and Boise temples). He and Jeanine served as senior missionaries in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Mission in 2002-2003.

LaThare lost Jeanine, his wife of 56 years, on November 14, 2008. In the last three years of their marriage, he visited daily and cared for Jeanine, who was in a memory care center, before she passed. It was a selfless act of love and devotion to her.

LaThare married his second wife, Karen Lucille Pugh Landward, on November 21, 2009 in Boise, Idaho, and they were sealed in the Meridian, Idaho Temple on December 30, 2017. They were loving companions who cared for each other for over twelve years, while living in Eagle and Meridian, Idaho.

LaThare was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanine; parents Reed and Olen Bodily; two brothers, Joseph Reed and Tharon Robert Bodily; four sisters, Athly Thompson, Barbara Fairey, Carolyn Cook and Alice Ruppe.

He is survived by his wife Karen; children, Sherri (Garry) True, Debbie (Steve) Evans, Julie (Mike) Barnett, Michael (Tracy) Bodily, Daniel (Susan) Bodily and Gregory (April) Bodily; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; brothers, Kent (Nancy) and Errol Bodily; sisters, Vadrus (Lowell) Roberts and Sharon (Bill) Schaefermeyer and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24 at the Overland Ward, 1950 South Locust Grove Rd, Meridian, Idaho. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. with burial at the Dry Creek Cemetery, Boise, Idaho.
