Merle L. Over, 72, of Knox RD 2, a Clarion County auditor, died at 5:05 am Friday in the Franklin Hospital. Born September 21, 1907, in Monroe Township, Clarion County, he was a son of John E. and Julia A. Callen Over. Mr Over was a school teacher for 11 years in Monroe and Beaver Townships, and Knox Borough. He was later employed at the Knox Glass Company, and then was a field investigator for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1967, he was elected as an auditor in Clarion County, where he served three full terms. He was elected to a fourth term in the November 1979 elections. Mr. Over was a member of the state committee of auditors in 1978. He was also a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Knox RD; the Edenburg Lodge of the F&AM, of which he was past master; the Oil City Lodge of Perfection; the New Castle Consistory; the Zem Zem Temple of Erie; and the Clarion County Shrine Club. He married the former Phyllis Wentling January 7, 1933
Friends will be received anytime after 2 pm today at the William N. Rupert Funeral Home in Knox. The family will received friends from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm today and Sunday. A masonic service will be conducted at 8 pm Sunday in the funeral home. Services will be held at 11 am Monday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Knox RD with Rev. Eli R. Fabian, a retired minister, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Union Cemetery.
