Posey Glenn Oyler, 74, of Roanoke, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday afternoon, January 30, 2008. Posey was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Fannie Oyler; a stepson, Steve L. Sloan; two brothers-in-law, Buddy Shelton, and Clarence Newcomb; and a nephew, Terry Hodges. Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Oyler; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jennifer Oyler; two very special "grandpets", Lilly and Bishop; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Janet Oyler; a sister, Barbara Shelton; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jane and Billy Allen, Pat and Charlie Allen, "Butch" and David Craft, and Carolyn and David Hughes; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Posey was a longtime coach of Little League and American Legion baseball, and was the founder of the Salem Roanoke Baseball Hall of Fame. He was past Commander of American Legion Post 3, and was a lifetime member of Glad Tidings Church (now Life Church). Funeral services will be conducted from Life Church at 1 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Joe Copollo and Pastor Troy Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Salem Roanoke Baseball Hall of Fame (3344 Brandywine Avenue; Roanoke, VA 24018) or to Life Church (7422 Deer Branch Road NW; Roanoke, VA 24019). The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Life Church. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.
