Mr. J.W. Rushton was a son and brother to family who called him Jewell, a loving husband, who's wife called him Honey, a father to four children who called him Daddy, a grandfather to grandchildren and great grandchildren who called him Pawpaw, Poppy, and Pop, an in law to family who called him Jerry and Hun, Brother Hun to his pastor, and Joe to coworkers, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Rushton Ammons, Great grandson, Joseph Paul Ammons, Parents Benjamin Elvis and Ruth Hanson Rushton, sisters Flo Rushton Hailey, Barbara Rushton Stangle and brother, Harold Rushton.
Mr. Rushton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann McCartney Rushton. Two daughters, Debby Franks of Dry Prong and Dena Hicks (Paul) of Pineville, one son, Darrell Rushton of Dry Prong and son in law, Paul Ammons of Colfax. Nine grandchildren: Jake McFarlen (Victoria), Jeb McFarlen (Ashley), Landon Franks, Hannah Hicks, Jenny Hicks, Chris Ammons (Elizabeth), Hope Ammons Billiot (Daniel), Benjamin Rushton and Milly Rushton. Fourteen great grandchildren: Chase, Natalie, and Delilah McFarlen, Lola, Olivia, and Jensen McFarlen, Mason Johnson, Emma, Layla, Ben, Noah, Claire, Isabelle and Silas Ammons.

Mr. Rushton was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. He worked at Dresser Industries for 32 years and was a deputy for the Grant Parish Sheriff's Department for 14 years. He retired at the age of 80.

He was a hard working, "loyal to the company", family man. He lived and taught that you went to work everyday and that any job worth doing was worth doing right. He was a master supervisor who instructed to "use elbow grease" and "rinse til you're wasting water". He was naturally witty and enjoyed his family, his jobs, his coworkers and his dog, "Nurse Nelly", who never left his side. He loved sitting on his porch, watching his blue birds, visiting with his "front porch" friends, reminiscing and talking about his family, his working days, camping at the Dugdemona Hilton, and shenanigans with his brothers in law. During his lifetime, Mr. Rushton enjoyed fishing, hunting, talking about the weather, and quizzing one on their family history when introduced. He was a man of great precision. He enjoyed sharpening carbide tipped saw blades in his machine shop as "Joe the Grinder." He was a "jack of all trades" and was his happiest working on things, helping others, and sharing his knowledge and skills. He loved his "Willis Jeep" and taking a ride to check out "the back forty."
