Shirley M. Garrett, 92, of Minden, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at CHI Health – Bergan Mercy in Omaha. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with Pastor Kellie Davidson and PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. Private family interment will be held prior to services at the Minden Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials in Shirley's honor are kindly suggested to Doctors Without Borders International, Best Friends Animal Society, or to the Nebraska Humane Society. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.

Shirley Mae Garrett was born on March 12, 1930 in Dannebrog, Nebraska to George and Rosamond (Petersen) Rasmussen. She graduated from Minden High School and attended one year of college in Kearney.

On October 29, 1950, Shirley was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" A. Garrett at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. The couple was blessed with three children: Georgette Jean, Timson Ross, and Brent Addison. The family made their home in Audubon, Iowa, Burlington, Iowa, and Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1964, the family returned to Minden.

Survivors include her daughter, Georgette Garrett Smith and husband Charles Smith of Omaha; sons, Timson and his wife Lezlie of Loveland, Colorado; and Brent and his wife Amy of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Stephanie Smith Cota and husband David Cota of Omaha, Kimberly Smith Weiss and husband Joshua Weiss of Omaha, Tyson Garrett and his wife Kajsa of Fort Collins, Colorado, Trevor Garrett and his wife Anne of Parker, Colorado and Kellie Garrett Davidson and her husband Colter Davidson of Berthoud, Colorado, Jake Garrett and Ross Garrett of Dallas, Texas; step-grandsons, Pierce and Sumner Smith of Denver, Colorado and Caroline Turner of Seattle, Washington; great-grandchildren, Abby, Drew, Emily Cota; Sarah, Benjamin, Luke Weiss; Gabe, Brody, William, Elin Garrett; Alysia, Kaylee, Peyton Garrett; Riley, Mollie, Addie Davidson; great great granddaughter, Gracyn Garrett, as well as a host of extended relatives and close friends.

As a long-time member of the Minden community, Shirley was active in many areas. Early-on she enjoyed women's golf league and the local garden club. She was an avid bridge player throughout her life, a member of the Red Hat Society, and she loved doing genealogy. When it came to charitable giving she was fond of animal rescue causes and had a heart for the underserved in Native American communities. She was generous with her time and money in support of Bethany Lutheran Church, particularly Women's Circle and the churches' historical presence in Minden. She was proud of her hometown and always saw Nebraska as the best place on earth.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert in 2018.
