Wayne Roquet

Wayne Robert Eugene Roquet, age 81, of Ada, MN., passed away in his home, on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
Wayne was born December 18, 1939, to Vernie and Lena (Braunschweig) Roquet, in Ada. He was raised in Lockhart, MN., and graduated from Ada High School, with the class of 1959. After high school, Wayne worked for Lawrence Keppler, at Ada Iron Yard, and has been an avid junk collector ever since. Ada clean-up week became his holiday. It wasn't uncommon for a family member to see Wayne hauling a pickup load full of treasures, wondering if they should call Cheryl to give her a heads up. After that, Wayne worked for a short time in Crookston, MN., at the beet plant. During the summer, he worked for Walter Olson, Pete Kappes, Dale Rinerson, and Wayne Borgen, helping with the farming. He later began his career with American Crystal Sugar in Hillsboro, ND., where he worked for over 18 years, until his retirement.
Wayne married Elaine Paulley, on January 16, 1965, at the Cohasset Catholic Church. They were blessed with two children: Lisa and Roger. Later, he chased Cheryl Balzum, to Borup, MN., and they danced together at many dances. They were married June 23, 1980. From this marriage, Wayne welcomed Karen and Carl, into his family. The couple was later blessed with four children together: Robert, Robyn, Justin, and Jason. Wayne loved hunting, fishing, and collecting junk in his spare time. He also loved spending time with family, and always lit up when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were around. Wayne enjoyed dancing, ready to polka with anyone he could pull on the dance floor. He was extremely light on his feet and could show anyone, that was willing to learn, the two step or any other dance that fit the music. Wayne enjoyed visiting and telling stories with all who would sit down and lend an ear. After retirement, Wayne spent time carving fish decoys, cleaning copper, picking berries, making jellies and lefse, watching the birds, and helping people clean up their junk, when given the opportunity. He will be remembered for his ability to see value in things we often throw away. Wayne cherished time spent with his loved ones, whom were his greatest treasures. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cheryl Roquet of Ada; eight children: Lisa (Jim) Wills of Lockhart, Roger (Bonita) Roquet of Brainerd, MN., Karen (Neal) DeVos of Ada, Carl (Nikki) Swenson of Borup, Robert (Carey) Roquet of Ada, Robyn (Aaron) Struntz of Wabasso, MN., Justin (Jody) Roquet of Felton, MN., and Jason Roquet of Ada; grandchildren: Bradley (Lauren) Roquet, Staci Wills, Tyler (Sarah) Wills, Cassandra Wills, Cody Thomsen, Zachery (Amanda) Roquet, Shylo (Cody) Roquet, Thea, Evan, Carson DeVos, Molly (Hunter) Swenson, Bryce Swenson, Bryon (Sarah) Holtslander, Ethan (Amber) Holtslander, Claire (Jesse) McDougle, Annabelle, Addison, Amelia and Ava Struntz, Jennifer Koste (Keagan Kawlewski), Tyler Koste (Shelby Buckle), and RaBecca Roquet; bonus grandchildren: Bri Solie and Jordan Balzum; great grandchildren: Sophia, Hunter, Odin, Serenity, Anthony, Andrew, Bethany, Emilyn, Bryson, Sophia, Mia, Ayden, Hermione, Avaa, and Carter; siblings: MaryAnn Vistad (Luverne) of Roseau, MN., Eugene Roquet of Ada, and Earl (Connie) Roquet of Wahpeton, ND.; brother-in-law, Gary (Chasity) Balzum; sisters-in-law: Julie Lisburg, Evelyn Roquet, Petra Roquet, and Lavonne Roquet. Wayne is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who were all very special to him.
Wayne is preceded in death by his grandchildren: ShayAnne and Dusty; his parents; his brothers: Walter, Marion, Merlin, William, and Harold; sisters-in-law, Avenelle and Irene; brother-in-law, Rick; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joyce and Sonny.
