Michael Dwain Cowart
September 11, 1966 ~ August 22, 2022 (age 55)

Michael Dwain Cowart, age 55, passed away on August 22, 2022 at his sister's home in Saucier. He was born on September 11, 1966 in Camden, Alabama, one of seven and the oldest son to parents Earnest Stanley, Jr. and Peggy Joyce (Alexander) Cowart.

He grew up all over the place, from Alabama, California, Mississippi, and a few places in between. He was pretty fond of fishing, and enjoyed it all through life. He attended school in a couple different places, finishing his educational pursuits at Harrison Central.

His father owned Cowart Plumbing, so Michael has been a plumber his whole career as well. Due to his height and size, he became known by most as "Big Mike", or to those who worked with him, just "Big". He always worked in plumbing, but fishing and working on vehicles was his passion.

He got into drag racing in the 90s, and owned a few cars through the years with his brother Joe. Together they put many trophies in their case over the years.

Big Mike could do most anything, and even built his own shrimp boat as a hobby. He was a straight-forward guy that also love to joke around a lot as well, but you always knew when he was serious. He did a lot of things in his life, but one thing he never did was back down from a challenge. Big Mike is lovingly remembered as good father to his children, but a great grandfather to those grandbabies. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded by his parents, Earnest, Jr. and Peggy Cowart, and an older sister.

Left to cherish his memories are his children: sons Michael, Jr. "Mikey" (Deborah Torres) Cowart of Brookhaven, and William Cowart of New Ulm, MN, with daughters Amber (Joey) Barr of Moss Point, and Kierstin (Micah) Brockway of Robertsdale, AL; a step-daughter Jaque Breaux of Gulfport; his wife, Vallery Cowart of Gulfport; his siblings: sisters Teri (Terry) Seymour of Saucier, Barbara (Thomas) Horner of California, and Deborah (Walt) LeCavalier of Hammond, LA, and brothers Joe Cowart of Gulfport and Earnest "Stan" Cowart, Jr. of Saucier. Mike leaves a legacy of eight grandchildren: Madison and Evie McDonald, Ellie and Ari Barr, Finley Odum, John and Jude Brockway, Gwenevere Eastman, and Jackson Breaux, along with numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors through the years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 31st at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry.

Visitation will begin at 11 AM, with a graveside service to follow at Finley Cemetery.

Rev. Micah Brockway will officiate. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Cowart family in their time of need, and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
