Bruce attended school in Iowa and Missouri. He was a Baptist.
He entered the United States Army on January 23, 1952. Bruce served in Korea for two years. For his service, he earned the Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
He married the former Joy J. Cook on January 25, 1960, in Bloomfield, Iowa. She survives.
Bruce worked as a carpenter, first for Dial Brothers Construction for 13 years before becoming self-employed. He enjoyed feeding the birds and wildlife. Bruce was an avid collector of marbles.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Harry Nicoli; and a sister, Helen Warren.
He is survived by his wife; his children, Timothy Bruce Nicoli and Kimberly Nicoli, both of Memphis; his brothers, John Nicoli of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Bob Nicoli of Downing; and a sister, Clair Belle Wilson of Lancaster.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 13, 2003, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, with Pastor David Barton officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Scott Wickert, Jerry Hyde, Aaron Dannenhauer, Larry Larkin, Mike Wilson, and John Larkin. Honorary bearers were Dr. Larry Wiggins, DVM, Leroy Oberholtzer, Roger Lucas, and Jack Dannenhauer. Interment was in the Brock Cemetery, Scotland County, MO, with military graveside rites by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post #4958 of Memphis.
