Ruth Viola Schlichting, 98, Beaver Dam, was called to the Lord Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018.
Ruth was born in Kiel, on April 6, 1920, the daughter of the late Erwin and Lydia Wieting. She was raised in Kiel and after graduation from Kiel High School in 1938, she attended and graduated from Manitowoc Normal Teachers College with her teaching certificate. Ruth taught several years in a one room school-house in the Mishicot area.
She was married to Eugene Schlichting on June 11, 1946. The family spent many years traveling while Gene was in the Navy in California, teaching, and in sales, while Ruth raised the family.
In 1961, they moved the family to Juneau where Ruth lovingly raised her family and was an active member of the community for more than 35 years. Ruth enjoyed her time at church as a member of many organizations at the Juneau E.U.B. and United Methodist Church.
In 1998, she moved to Beaver Dam and was an active member of Trinity Church—United Methodist of Beaver Dam.
Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren in sporting events and other activities. She enjoyed her pets and caring for young children, as well as tending to her flowers and houseplants. Ruth enjoyed writing letters and sending cards to her family and college friends. She was famous for giving the best back rubs to her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by one daughter, Karen Schrab of Beaver Dam; two sons, Daniel Schlichting of Waupun, and Keith Schlichting of Beaver Dam. She is further survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer Jacobson of Kewaskum, Bridgette (Todd) Hermanson of Cambridge, David Schlichting of Waupun, Beverly (William) Bonde of Kiel, and Michelle (Christopher) Lutzke of Belgium, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by one son, Michael Schlichting of Kiel, two sisters and one brother.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam. Friends and family may pay their respects from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service starting at 11 a.m. Burial will take place Saturday, Dec. 29, at 3:30 p.m. at Kiel City Cemetery, located on South First Street in Kiel.
