Walter J. Hicks passed peacefully into God's arms on August 15th, 2022. Born May 25, 1931, he was the fourth child of seven boys. Upon graduation from Orland High, Walter married his high school sweetheart and joined the Navy. After four years of service, the couple moved home to Tehama, and then Corning. The family has resided in Corning since 1964. In 2021, the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Walter was a carpenter by trade, but a master craftsman at all projects. He could, or would at least attempt to, outwork an entire crew. An avid fisherman, he was known to talk his wife into many lake and stream camping trips and insist none were worth keeping if the fish weren't biting.

Walter is survived by his wife, Gail Hicks, and his four children. Mike (Karen) Hicks of Arroyo Grande, Barbara (Mike) Karry of Manton, Beverly (John) Fickes of Anderson, and Jeanne (Rob) Newton of Chico. He is also survived by one brother Ross (Betty) Hicks of Petaluma. Walter has six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He enjoyed all his grandchildren and was ever the instigator of a good-natured prank or joke.

Services for Walter will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at St. Dominic's Parish in Orland. A viewing is scheduled for 9:30am, with a half hour mass to follow. A short graveside ceremony honoring his military service will be performed at the Orland Cemetery located on Road P in Orland. Flowers may be sent to St. Dominic's Parish at 822 A St in Orland. His family welcomes all who loved and will miss Walter to this service.
