She was the third child and second daughter of James and Lucinda E "Lucy" (VanCleave) Giffin.

She married Alvin Dean Allen on Sept. 12, 1904. They had no children.

They owned and operated the Stuard Hotel in Waurika from 1934 until its closure. She and her sister, Jennie Belle "Gene" (Giffin) Christianson lived together in the hotel for many years after their husbands died.
