Orbin Ferrell

Orbin Ferrell, age 92, Mooresburg died Monday, November 28, 2005 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital.

He made his living most of his life by tilling the soil. In his earlier years, he was a promoter and participant in Southern Gospel music of the shaped-note style. He was one of the last of the old-time Singing Masters, having taught many three week singing schools. He sang in many revivals and funerals. He was a member of Howe's Chapel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Robinette Ferrell; parents, Tom and Eliza Ferrell; daughter-in-law, Ellen Ferrell; brothers, Will, Curt and Elmer Ferrell and sisters, Eva Quillen, Elsie Davis, Ina Linkous and Lona Lewis.

He is survived by his children, Claude (Ann) Ferrell, of the home; Ruth (Billy) Robinette, Greeneville, Norman Ferrell, Newman, GA and Virgil (Judy) Ferrell, Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Trine (Frank) Gosnell and their children, Hannah and Dahl, Knoxville, Teresa Solomon and son, B.J., Greeneville, Leslie Robinette, Greeneville, Lana Griffin and children, Matthew and Sarah, Newman, GA, Kevin (Paulette) Ferrell, Valdosta, GA, Heather (Kenneth) Aycock and daughter, Kendall, Newman, Ga, Bradford Ferrell, Myrtle Beach, Brittany and McKenzie, Modesto, CA, Clifton and Travis Ferrell, Myrtle Beach, SC; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lesli (Greg) Hutchison Duffield and Terran, Clovis, NM, Ashley (Scott) Gosnell Johnson, Knoxville, and Coleman Jarosz, Valdosta, GA; sister-in-law, Lucille Robinette Lawson, Rogersville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at the Colboch-Price Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ralph Gibson officiating. Woodson Harris served as song leader. Interment followed in Highland Cemetery with Rev. J.C. Lawson and Elder John Arnott officiating. Honorary pallbearers were John Ferrell, Ben Wexler, Roy Morgan, Bill Jenkins, Sterling Ferrell and M.C. Rogers. Active pallbearers were his grandsons. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ALPS Adult Say Services, 600 N. Daisy St., Morristown, TN 37814 or Lakeway Alumni Chapter Scholarship Fund, c/o Cindy Whitt, Lincoln Memorial University, 6965 Cumberland Gap Parkway, Harrogate, TN 37752. Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville was in charge of arrangements.
