Danny L. "George" Smith Jr., 76, of Galesburg, died Saturday, August 13, 2022, at home.

He was born September 26, 1945, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Danny L. and June (Hines) Smith Sr. He married Linda Burton on November 28, 1963 in La Harpe, Illinois.

He is survived by a daughter, Dana "Sis" (Kurt) Rahe of Bluffs; a son, Alan "Bud" Smith of Galesburg; and two brothers, Randy (Debbie) Smith of Topeka, Kansas and Glenn Shaffer of Marigold, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Carter.

Danny moved to Galesburg from Sheldon, Illinois in 1961. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1965. His working career was mainly as a laborer for Gale Products for 18 years, Maytag for one year, and Adams Pressed Metals for 3 years. He had also worked for a time as the maintenance supervisor at the former Holiday Inn. He retired in 2004.

Danny enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating.

Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
