Betty Jane Berry, 60, of Shelbyville, formerly of Johnston City, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 6:42 p.m., Sunday, August 7, 2022 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. Betty was born on May 24, 1962 in Cairo to Charles and Rosie (Caudell) Hutson. She was united in marriage to Bruce Berry on August 8, 2001 at Shelby Christian Church in Shelbyville. Together they shared almost 20 years of marriage. Betty was a 1980 graduate of Johnston City High School. She continued her education at John A. Logan College where she earned her Nursing degree. Betty worked as a teacher's aide at South Shore Elementary School in Decatur and had previously worked for the school as a nurse. She had a servants heart and enjoyed helping the children. Betty loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Shelby Christian Church. She had recently been re-baptized on March 6, 2022. Betty enjoyed volunteering at the church and helping with vacation bible school. She also enjoyed attending church with her sister, Julie at Royalton Apostolic Church. Betty was a good mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and friends. She also enjoyed shopping and looking for a good yard sale. Betty is survived by her husband, Bruce Berry of Shelbyville; daughter, Kellie (Shannon) Stacey of Herrin; two step-daughters, Krissy (Jeremy) Tolladay of Tennessee and Stephanie Berry of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren, Allison Berry of Herrin, Logan Dirden of Herrin, Derick Dirden of Streator, Ashton "Cole" Dirden of Carterville, Kendall Funneman of New York, Tanner (Santana) Tolladay of Tennessee, Kaiden Click and Alana Corley both of Shelbyville; great-granddaughter, Paisley Ann Dirden; two brothers, Charles Hutson of Chester and Paul (Lori) Hutson of Carterville; two sisters, Karen (Kevin) Roberts of Johnston City and Julie (Carl) Holland of Royalton; four best-friends, Donna Payne, Tammy Hanley, Sharon Sims, and Debbie Cobb. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Jason Scott Dirden; parents; sister, Monica Ince; infant sister, Debra Hutson; beloved dog, Jazzy; mother-in-law, Maryann Schwarm. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Br. Donald Maas officiating. Interment will follow in Herrin City Cemetery.
