TORRINGTON — Philip A. Lent, 80, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at his home. He was the husband of Marianne (Ruzbasan) Lent. Philip was born in Torrington on Feb. 1, 1942, a son of the late Santa (Manes) and George Lent. A graduate of OWTS, he served in the U.S.
Marines and was honorably discharged as a corporal having received a Meritorious Mast for work in his M.O.S. He worked for HELCO/ CL& P as a MMIC supervisor in Torrington and Cheshire for 32 years.
He was a former president of St. Peter Home/ School Association and was a club Leader for Youth for Christ working and counseling teens. He was active with Torrington High School Band fundraising and various adjudication festivals in the States and Canada. He was also involved with Bakerville Methodist Church as a leader with Easy Pedalers Ministry to area teens. Their two-week 10-speed bike trips took place at various locations in New England, Canada, Ohio and New York. He was an honorary member of Harwinton Westside Volunteer Fire Department and a member of American Legion Post 38, Torrington Color Guard, participating in parades and flag raising ceremonies. A model railroader for 65 years, he was a founding member and secretary of Torrington Area Model Railroad Assoc., and was awarded certificates of achievements from NMRA, where he was a life member. He was a Boy Scout Model Railroading Merit Badge counselor and Explorer Scout leader in model railroading. His greatest joy was his family, living and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping others.
In addition to his wife, he leaves daughters, Susan Kellogg, Jennifer Lent (Ray Tanguay Jr.), Mary Romano (Steven Romano Sr.) and Rebecca Davis (Morgan Davis). He also leaves grandchildren Samantha Kellogg, Seth Kellogg (Megan Kellogg), Steven Romano Jr. (Maddie Gesmondi), John Romano (Allison Romano), Zachary Romano and Andrew Davis; great-grandchildren Joseph and Kenzie Kellogg; and a brother, George W. Lent Jr. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, at First Congregational Church in Torrington, with burial following at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington.
