Mrs. James Griswold, 92, a pioneer resident of Lee co,IA, died today, Nov 30,at her home in Jefferson Twp, Lee co,IA. Died of injuries suffered nearly a year ago when
she fell and fractured her hip. Nee Miss Magnolia Skyles, daughter of the late Benjamin and Hannah Skyles. She was born in Jefferson Twp,. Nov 27, 1847. Married Oct 24, 1866. Her husband preceded her. Survived by the following children: Mrs. Eva Maxfield- Jefferson twp.; Mrs. May Vermazen- Charleston,IA; Victor-FM; Hurd- Jefferson twp.; Don- Clarinda,IA;Bessie Griswold- Jefferson Twp.; Mrs. Gladys Wardlow- Montrose,IA; Kenneth- Maywood, California; 2 sisters - Mrs. Nannie Snively- Petersburg, Ill; Mrs. Susan South - Charleston,IA; 1 brother - F.P. Skylefs - Des Moines, IA; 44 grandchildren and 49 great Grandchildren. Three children, Edgar, Simeon, and Mrs. Grace Vermazen preceded her in death. Funeral Saturday at Clements. Buried Oakland Cemetery.

From May Crow:" It was considered daring for Magnolia to marry and go to live "Cross creek" on the Griswold farm, as Devil Creek was fairly daunting until late summer and not easily crossed.[Griswold.FTW]
