(December 7, 1925 - January 28, 2008)

James Leroy "Buddy" Thrift, Sr., 82, of Waycross died Monday morning (January 28, 2008) at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, (Duval Co) FL after an extended illness. He was born in Ware County to the late Lone Thrift and Virginia Belle Cox Thrift and lived here all of his life. Mr. Thrift served in the military during WWII and was a retired Welder with Georgia Natural Gas Company after 43 years of service. He was a member of Big Swamp Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

In addtion to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Louise Nettles Thrift, a daughter, Mary Louise Thrift, two sisters, Edna White and Fannie Bush.

Survivors include five children, Ellen Gilliard (Cary), Douglas, Sherry Wheeler, Waycross, Leroy Thrift (Judy), Reidsville, Laverne Welch (Lamar), Fargo, Ellie Thrift (Jodie), Hazlehurst, 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Josie Gordon, Evelyn Aldridge and Cora Mae Allen all of Waycross, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 am at Camp Branch Church of God of Prophecy in Manor. Burial will follow in the Camp Branch Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 pm at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
